Squadron Commander, Jamie Cooke, of 455 Morecambe & Heysham Air Training Corp was the speaker at our meeting on the 18th of February. Jamie gave us some details of the ATC formation with a Royal Decree in 1941. During World War II cadets and instructors were drafted into the Royal Air Force. In the UK currently there are 50,000 cadets across 1000 squadrons. Thirty three percent of UK cadets are female. Cadets parade twice a week. Among the many activities cadets can be involved and instructed in are Sport, Glider and Powered Flying, Rifle Shooting, First Aider, Ceremonial Drill, BTEC qualifications. Local cadets have joined the military, police and fire services. Alumni cadets are invited to the Squadron Ball.
