Carnforth Rotary held a World’s Greatest Meal event at our regular meeting on Thursday 21st February in celebration of Rotary’s 114th birthday on 23rd February. A total of 58 diners comprising our own members and their partners plus members of Carnforth Inner Wheel and visiting Rotarians from Lancaster, Lancaster Loyne and Lunesdale Rotary Clubs were present.
The World’s Greatest Meal was established set up in 2014 by Australian Suzanne Rea OAM. Since that time over 5,000 fundraising meals have been served in 81 countries to 350, 000 participants. To date this has raised close to $10 million, which has funded in excess of 16 million polio vaccines.
Together with dining fees and a raffle, £240 was raised for Rotary’s Polio Eradication campaign which will be trebled when combined with the 2 for 1 contribution from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
It costs just 20p to vaccinate a child which means that our fundraiser alone can now ensure the protection of 3,600 children from this life changing disease.
