Carnforth Rotarians supported the annual Bae Systems sponsored Technology Tournament as judges, stewards and admin staff on Friday 15th March at the Lancaster Boys and Girls Club. The competition was jointly staffed by members from the four Lancaster area Rotary clubs of Carnforth, Lancaster, Lancaster Loyne and Lunesdale.
Teams from Carnforth High School, Lancaster Girls Grammar School and Wennington School were tasked to produce a technical portfolio outlining their plan and then constructing a mobile device to raise a cylinder containing “nuclear material”, retrieve it back to the start line and then lower it on a designated spot.
The teams competed at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Winner of the Foundation award was Wennington School. Wennington A team won the Intermediate award and Lancaster Girls Grammar School won the Senior Award. Cups were presented by Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Andrew Kay.
Carnforth High School A team was placed 3rd and the B team placed 5th at Foundation level. At Intermediate level the A & B teams were placed joint 4th.
Very many thanks to all of the judges, STEM ambassadors, stewards, administrators and staff at the Lancaster Boys & Girls Club who gave up their time for this event.
