On Sunday 13th September 2020, a small group of Carnforth Rotarians enjoyed a guided walk to Piel Island, Barrow-in-Furness, which is the UK’s 8th largest island.

The walk was organised by President Nominee Anthony Chick who ensured the efficient organisation of the event. In line with current Government guidelines, those taking part were socially distanced and given a comprehensive safety briefing by John Murphy, the group guide.

John has over 40 years experience as a guide, and shared his knowledge to take everyone on a memorable historical journey from the times of the French order of monks to the present day.
During the walk John used his horticultural knowledge by pointing out “day-sees” ,“the lions tooth” (dandelion), samphire and a variety of seaweeds.

Several seals were seen lounging on the rocks which mark the southernmost point of Cumbria.
