A Fantastic Community Effort

aturday 10th and Sunday 11th March showed the true community spirit in Carnforth when several groups, residents and volunteers pulled together to raise money to support Carnforth Pool and their own worthy causes. So far, it is anticipated that over £2,000 has been raised from sponsorship and donations..

Carnforth Pool was opened 40 years ago after a grand fundraising effort by local people who bought a brick in addition to other activities. Sadly, last year, the Pool was deemed to be closed by the County Council. However, once again, the community spirit was fired up and with the guidance and hard work of Carnforth Rotarian John Blowes, along with many others, fundraising began in earnest. The Pool was officially re-opened by Carnforth Town Mayor Pat Woof JP, assisted by Grace, the schools winner of the logo competition at commencement of the  Swimathon on the weekend 10th and 11th March 2018.

We wish to thank everyone who organised the event, all of the swimmers who took part and managed to clock up 3,961 laps, that is 49.51 miles (9.51 miles greater than the target), all volunteers who came along to help, the supporters and sponsors who gave up their time and money to help.

We would also like to give our grateful thanks to Carnforth Tesco, for very kindly donating the refreshments for the swimmers.
