On Saturday 6th October Carnforth Rotarians John Blowes and his wife Angela; Larry Branyan; Kath Bromilow; Geoff Critchlow and his wife Raelene; Arthur Jones’ wife Carol; Eddie Hignett, Linda Lambson; Ray Lear; Geoff Parker and George Wilson, together with Phil Spencer from Lancashire Police and 6 Lancaster Police Cadets set off on a sponsored walk along the Lancaster canal from t he Water Witch pub, Lancaster to the Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield to raise at least £800 to ship a container of recycled mobility aids (wheel chairs, crutches, walking frames etc) to the port of Tanga for use by patients at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania.
The full 12 mile walk commenced at 10am with an option to start or finish at the Hest Bank Hotel or the Canal Turn, Carnforth. The walk was organised by Kath Bromilow and John Blowes. We were very lucky with the weather which started off overcast and finished with bright sunshine. A total of 20 participants started and 8 intrepid walkers completed the full distance including Phil Spencer and 2 Police Cadets. We were well supported by our fellow Carnforth Rotarians Ivor Davies; Arthur Jones; Pete Lambson; Stuart Hale and Doug Taylor who provided excellent back up and transport. Many thanks to everyone that sponsored the walkers.
