Twelve Carnforth Rotarians and partners boarded the Brief Encounter Steam Special with Pullman carriages at midday on Saturday 15th May for a 5 hour round trip rail excursion through Lancashire and Yorkshire. A total of 502 passengers and 8 West Coast Railway staff had an extremely enjoyable journey in dry weather enjoying the scenery and each other’s company. The excursion commemorated 50 years since the end of British Rail steam powered locomotives in August 1968. We all enjoyed a picnic with good food and plenty to drink. All credit to Club Secretary Linda Lambson and her bottomless “Mary Poppins” bag! Many thanks to Carnforth Station Heritage Centre Manager John Adams for organising the trip.
