On Friday 8th June 2018, Carnforth North Road Primary School held their first Technology Competition. The competition, which was run by Pete Lambson and assisted by some members of Carnforth Rotary, was to design and make a bridge to allow squirrels safe access across a busy road.
All the children worked exceptionally well in teams, using card, dowel, and netting, along with an assortment of items and adhesives for joining the materials together. The finished structures all remained stable when a force 9 gale (hairdryer) was used to test their rigidity.
The three members of the winning team each received a certificate and a squirrel (soft toy), which were awarded by District Governor
Larry Branyan PHF.
He also awarded a STEM bridge building kit, for use in the school, to Yr 5 teacher Mr Winder.
