Carnforth High School Youth Speaks Teams Compete in District Final

Carnforth Rotary sponsored Intermediate and Senior Youth Speaks teams from Carnforth High School in the Regional Youth Speaks 2018/19 competition at Windermere School on Saturday 2nd February.  English department teachers at Carnforth High School, Tansy Whittam and Abi Barton did a superb job coaching both teams.

The Intermediate Section for ages 11-13 years had nine entrants and the Senior section, aged 14-17, eight schools.

The Carnforth Intermediate team trio presentation was entitled “The Benefits of Reading” and was a persuasive performance. The team comprised the Chair, Holly Little; Speaker, Keeleigh Kennedy and Vote of Thanks, Emily Robinson, who won the prize for best Intermediate team “Vote of Thanks”.

The overall winner in this group was Dallam School, Milnthorpe and second, Hutton Grammar School Preston.  No other placements in either the Intermediate or Senior sections were announced by the adjudicators.

The Carnforth High School Senior team competed against some very experienced speakers and demonstrated a very confident presentation entitled “The Impact of Social Media and Cyber Bullying on the Psychology of Young People”.  The team comprised the Chair, Abi Atkin; Speaker, Harlei Bowerbank and Vote of Thanks, Zak Wilding.

The students clearly enjoyed their experience and Carnforth Rotary look forward to sponsoring the teams again next year.
